Real-time VFX · Native to Mac

Fire, smoke and explosions. In real time. On your Mac.

PyroMetal is a GPU-accelerated fire and smoke studio built for Apple Silicon. Design volumetric effects live at full speed, then export production-ready output for film and games.

Requires an Apple Silicon Mac. Free to create — a one-time unlock adds export.

What it does

A full simulator, running live on your GPU

Everything you need to design, simulate, light and render volumetric effects — interactively, without leaving the app.

Real-time simulation

A GPU fluid solver with a physically-based combustion model. Inject fuel, ignite it, and watch fire, heat and smoke separate the way they do in the real world.

Millions of particles

A GPU particle system holding up to a million sparks and embers, with real smoke and fire trails, bursts and firework-style stars — tuned per emitter.

Cinematic rendering

Volumetric ray-marching with blackbody fire, HDR bloom and filmic tonemapping, plus a full color-grade and post-effects suite built right in.

Scene tools

Emitters in sphere, box, cylinder, mesh or image shapes, force fields, effectors, colliders and up to eight self-shadowing lights.

Keyframe & scrub

Animate any parameter with a curve editor, then bake the simulation once and scrub the timeline back and forth instantly.

Export anywhere

MP4 video, PNG sequences, game-ready sprite sheets and VDB volumes for Blender and Houdini — across 12 render channels, up to 8K.

Showcase

From a single spark to a full explosion

Fireworks, muzzle flashes, colored smoke, volcanic plumes — art-directed in real time.

Flames

A physically-based combustion model, burning in real time.

Simulation with particles

Up to a million sparks and embers, coupled to the fluid.

Volumetric smoke

Dense, self-shadowing smoke with per-source color.

Real-time post effects

Grade and stylize the render as you work.

Roadmap

PyroMetal is actively developed. Here's what's being worked on — quality first, so we don't promise dates.

In development

  • Alembic (.abc) animated mesh support — simulate against baked geometry caches
  • Animated FBX import — emitters and colliders driven by skeletal and transform animation
  • Stability and performance improvements across the solver

Planned

  • OpenEXR image-sequence export (16-bit float, linear) for compositing pipelines
  • Deeper collider interaction for particles — friction-aware sliding and rest states
  • Expanded example library and one-click effect presets
  • More force-field falloff shapes and controls

Exploring

  • Direct engine-preset bundles for Unreal and Unity flipbook materials
  • Additional interface languages
  • Community preset sharing

The roadmap reflects current direction and may change as development progresses.

Known issues

Being investigated for upcoming updates.

  • Shadow rendering artifacts — self-shadowing can show banding or patchy darkening in some scenes, most visibly with multiple lights or very dense smoke.
  • Particle motion irregularities — particles can occasionally move unnaturally in certain setups, such as jitter or drift that doesn't follow the flow.
Simple, honest pricing
